Experience the beauty of multicultural exchange when you catch the latest installment of the Forest Concert Series right here in Bentonville. Two-time Juno Award winner Kiran Ahluwalia graces the Forest Concert Series fresh from her LOVEfest Tour, which featured four acts from Sikh and Muslim countries and was designed as a musical response to hate crime. Ahluwalia will perform alongside her husband and musical partner, Res Abbasi, during this fabulous evening of Indian classical, jazz and contemporary sounds.
Kiran Ahluwalia is an Indian singer-songwriter who infuses African desert blues and Western musical styles. She is a modern exponent of the great vocal traditions of India and Pakistan which she honors intensely yet departs from in masterful, personal ways.
Her original compositions embody the essence of Indian music while embracing influences from Mali and Western blues, rock, R & B and nuances of jazz. With her 5-piece group of electric guitar, accordion, organ, tabla and drum kit, Ahluwalia creates boundary-breaking songs that invite us to explore the human condition, transcending the self by losing ourselves in a trance of groove and melody.
In 2009, Ahluwalia won the 'Newcomer' category in the inaugural Songlines Music Awards, the new world music awards organized by the UK-based magazine, Songlines. The UK’s Folk Roots magazine calls her "a voice destined to enchant more than one generation."
